(WARNING! Complete model ship kits are NOT sold here - see your local hobby dealer for those)
Thanks for stopping by! We hope you enjoy our updated and expanded website.
Gold Medal Models was established in 1985 to produce exhibition quality detail
parts for builders of plastic model ship kits. In 1992, GMM added N-scale and HO-scale
model railroad detail accessories to its range and our model railroad products
now total more than 60 at the present time.
Our ship fittings line has grown to become world famous for its quality and value.
In fact, it has now become the de facto standard against which all similar products
are compared. One of the reasons for this is GMM's unwavering dedication not only to
historical accuracy, but also its user-friendly designs which make GMM
products much easier to use than competing brands. Even our instruction sheets
have set a new standard that is hard to beat with their lavish use of clearly
drawn illustrations and step-by-step assembly methods that make building a model
ship with GMM fittings a breeze.
Our model railroad accessories have also proven to be very popular and successful,
with numerous hobby magazine cover stories featuring GMM details prominently
displayed. In fact, our products have been featured in more magazine articles
and have appeared on more magazine covers than all similar products combined!
And serious competitors have also grown to rely on GMM for that extra edge
that earns them top prizes in contests around the world. Just like the magazine
authors mentioned above, competitors using GMM products on their model ships
have won more awards than those using all other competing brands combined!
So whether you're a serious competitor, or a hobbyist who simply refuses to
settle for second best, Gold Medal Models is your kind of company. We speak your
language because we, too, are enthusiastic modelbuilders with the highest
possible standards. And we'll always keep working to raise them.
GMM's 1/350 scale PE set for Trumpeter's Admiral Kuznetsov Russian aircraft carrier was awarded Model of the Year in the detail set division for 2005 by Germany's Der Schiffsmodellbauer magazine. A vote of the readers resulted in the PE set being chosen as best new product in its class for the year. This is the fourth year in a row a GMM product has taken this honor. We are very grateful to Der Schiffsmosellbauer's Alfred Murr and the magazines readers.
GOLD MEDAL MODELS WINS MODEL OF THE YEAR FOR 2006!
GMM's 1/350 scale PE set for Trumpeter's HMS Hood battlecruiser kit was awarded Model of the Year in the detail set division for 2006 by Germany's Der Schiffsmodellbauer magazine. A vote of the readers resulted in the PE set being chosen as best new product in its class for the year. This is the fifth year in a row a GMM product has taken this honor. We are very grateful to Der Schiffsmodellbauer's Alfred Murr and the magazine's readers.
GMM AWARDED "MODEL OF THE YEAR 2007" BY DER SCHIFFSMODELLBAUER MAGAZINE!
GMM's 1/350 scale photoetched detail set (No. 350-41) for Trumpeter's USS Alabama & Massachusetts U.S. Navy battleship kits has been awarded "Modell des Jahres 2007" (Model of the Year 2004) in the Accessory division by the German model ship magazine Der Schiffsmodellbauer. The Nurnberg-based publication polled its readers in the annual event and the GMM products were selected as the winner. This is the third year in a row that a GMM product has been judged the Model of the Year winner in this class by German hobbyists.
The award itself is a beautiful 4" by 5.5" polished wooden plaque featuring a metallic blue engraved metal plate trimmed with a sculpted gold border and enclosed in a blue felt box with a hinged cover. It arrived here on Tuesday, June 21 with a cover letter and copies of the latest issues of Der Schiffsmodellbauer.
We are extremely honored as well as grateful to editor Alfred Murr, the staff of Der Schiffsmodellbauer, and all the readers of this exceptional magazine.
2. When you're browsing through this site, you'll notice that all of the products listed are actually located on an order form itself along with every other product in that category. You can print that form out and fill in the 'Qty.' (Quantity) space on the far right. Any 'Qty.' space left empty will be disregarded.
Overseas Buyers : Cheques must have these three items : 1. Funds must be in U.S. Dollars; 2. Funds must be drawn on a U.S. Bank; 3. A computer-generated routing number must be visible along cheque's lower edge. If a check is sent to us that is lacking one or more of these items, it will be returned to you and your order will be delayed. If in doubt, use a postal money order.
NOTICE FOR CUSTOMERS ALL OVER THE WORLD: GMM NOW TAKES PAYPAL ORDERS! TO PLACE A PAYPAL ORDER, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
1. PayPal ordering is just as fast as credit card ordering and will allow you to greatly speed up the delivery of your GMM products. If you haven't already done so, you must first open your own PayPal account. To visit the PayPal home page, go to this site: PayPal.com
2. Add up the cost of all the items you wish to order. Next, calculate 3% of the total and add this to cover the PayPal fee. NOTE: Use only U.S. Dollars when ordering via PayPal.
(Example - one No. 350-1 (1/350 New Jersey @ $45.00) + one No. 350-1D
(1/350 Naval Decals @ $8.00) = $53.00. Now add 3% of $53.00 - $50.00 x .03
or 3% = $1.59 - for a total, with PayPal fee, of $54.59.)
Finally, add the shipping charge ($2.50 USD - U.S. Dollars - for USA,
Canadian, or Mexican orders, or 14% for air mail to all other countries.)
Examples: the final total for the above order sent to a North American
address would be $54.59 (New Jersey at $45.00 + Naval Decals at $8.00 =
$53.00 + $1.59 PayPal fee = $54.59 + $2.00 shipping = $56.59.) Or, the
final total for the same order sent to an overseas address would be $62.63
USD (New Jersey at $45.00 + Naval Decals at $8.00 = $53.00 + $1.59 PayPal
fee = $54.59 USD + 14% - $54.59 x .14 or 14% = $7.64 USD - for a final
total of $62.23 USD.)
3. Enter your list of items in the "Notes" section of the on-line PayPal order form. If you cannot do this, send your written order to us via e-mail right after you send us your PayPal payment. NEVER use attachments - we cannot open many attachments for various reasons.
4. Send your completed order and payment to the same address you just used to contact us: goldmedl@rockisland.com
We normally ship within 24 hours of receiving your order. Of course, holidays and other interruptions can delay this by a few days, but almost never more than one week. You should have your order no later than two weeks after your place your PayPal order, often much sooner.
Unfortunately, we're not able to accept other types of orders by e-mail or phone. We only accept non-PayPal orders via regular mail.
Although Gold Medal Models doesn't accept credit cards, many of our dealers do. See
our "Links" page for some of the mail order firms that carry our range and accept
credit cards. This list will be expanding as more and more dealer websites are
added to it.
NOTE: Not all GMM products are stocked by all dealers. You may experience
a delay while the dealer orders products from us to fill your order. Our stocks are
always well maintained so that any orders placed to us directly will experience little
or no delay. We normally ship the same day your order arrives here.
